Yangshuo West Street (阳朔西街) is the main pedestrian drag through Yangshuo town, a cobbled lane of cafes, bars, tailors and street-food stalls set against a wall of karst towers. It has been a travellers’ crossroads since the 1980s and remains the social heart of the whole valley.

Intro: why go

After the calm of the river, West Street is where Yangshuo lets its hair down. By day you browse jade, calligraphy and custom tailoring. By night the lanterns come on, bands play on the rooftops, and the smell of beer fish drifts down the lane. It is touristy, yes, but it is also the easiest place to meet people and plan a next-day bike ride.

Tickets & booking

The street is public and free to walk at any time. You spend only on food, drinks and shopping. There is no ticket and no reservation. Some rooftop bars and restaurants get busy on weekends, so arrive early for a river-view table.

How to get there & in-site route

From Guilin, ride the high-speed train to Yangshuo station, then a ten-minute bus or taxi into town. The Li River cruise also drops you at the Yangshuo wharf, a short walk or cart ride away. Once there, the street is closed to cars, so explore on foot and follow the side alleys for quieter bars.

Facilities

You will find ATMs, pharmacies, cafes with real coffee and Western food, plus bike and e-bike rental on every corner. Most places take Alipay or WeChat; carry some cash for the tiny stalls. Public toilets sit at both ends of the lane.

Best season & seasonal pros and cons

Spring and autumn are ideal, with clear air and warm evenings. Summer is hot and sticky but lively; winter is cold and quieter. The October holiday crowds the lane shoulder to shoulder, so go early or late in the day.

Tips & scams

Tailors and massage touts can be pushy; a polite no works. Agree any bike rental or tea price before you start. Watch your phone and wallet in the late-night crush, and skip the “free tea ceremony” that ends in a hard sell.
