The Impression Liu Sanjie (印象·刘三姐) is a colossal open-air night show staged on the Li River just south of Yangshuo. Directed by Zhang Yimou, it uses the real karst peaks as a backdrop and the river as the stage.

Intro: why go

Hundreds of local villagers perform with fishing lights, red lanterns and bamboo rafts across the water. The effect is less a theatre show than a living landscape painting that moves. If you enjoy spectacle and are already in Yangshuo for the night, this is the obvious after-dark choice.

Tickets & booking

Seats are numbered and priced in tiers, roughly $40–70 for a standard ticket; verify the current rate on site or with your hotel. The VIP stands cost more and sit closest to the water stage. Buy through your hotel or an official seller a day ahead in peak season, since popular nights sell out. Keep the e-ticket and your passport handy.

How to get there & in-site route

The theatre sits about 2 km from Yangshuo West Street along the river. A taxi or the shuttle bus gets you there in ten minutes. Arrive 30–40 minutes before show time to clear the gate and find your stand. The performance begins after dark year-round, with times shifting by season.

Facilities

The venue has numbered seating, basic toilets and snack stalls at the entrance. Ponchos are sold on rainy nights. There is limited shelter if a storm hits, so check the forecast before you leave.

Best season & seasonal pros and cons

Spring and autumn bring clear skies and comfortable seating temperatures. Summer is warm and humid but lively; winter nights are cold, so bring a jacket. Rain can add moody mist but also risk a cancellation.

Tips & scams

Buy only from your hotel or the official box office; street touts offering “half-price” seats are unreliable. Bring a light jacket for the riverside chill, and ignore photo “helpers” near the exit.
