Xiamen in 1 day — pick your route
One day is enough for the headline sights if you choose well. Xiamen is flat and coastal, but Gulangyu sits 4 km offshore and needs a booked ferry. Anchor at Zhongshan Road and keep each half-day in one district. Below are five ready-made loops — choose by what you care about most.
Set up Alipay with an international card and passport verification — it runs the metro QR, DiDi ride-hail and the shared bikes. If your day includes Gulangyu, book the real-name round-trip ferry before you fly (up to 15 days ahead) on the official "Yujian Xiamen" mini-program; your passport number is the boarding pass. Wear real walking shoes.

Practical notes for every route
- Book the Gulangyu ferry first. It is the one fixed booking with no reliable walk-up; everything else flexes around it.
- Xiamen University needs a reservation. Free entry uses an online lottery; apply a few days ahead with your passport.
- Base yourself at Zhongshan Road. Every Route A–E loop starts or ends here; it is the metro and ferry hub.
- Carry your passport. The ferry and the university both read it as your ID at the gate.
