Guangzhou: the ¥150 tower is not ¥150
Guangzhou's headline number is misleading in an instructive way: ¥150 buys the indoor observation halls of Canton Tower and nothing else — the outdoor decks, the Ferris wheel and the drop tower are separate modules that take the same visit to ¥398. Below the tower, the city is cheap and oddly underrated: a ¥10 folk-art museum, a free park with the city's founding statue, and dim sum that costs less than the cable car up the tower.
Ticketing is module-based: the 433 m 'White Cloud Starry Sky' observation ticket (428 m + 433 m indoor halls) is ¥150; the 450 m outdoor platform ticket is ¥228; the 460 m Ferris wheel package ¥298; the 480 m drop-tower package ¥268; the 488 m outdoor platform ticket ¥328; and the 488 m all-attractions package ¥398. Open 9:30–22:30 with last entry at 22:00; the tower is lit 19:00–22:00. Entry is time-slotted — book on the official WeChat mini-program or website (a 433 m ticket bought online 1–3 days ahead is sold at about 10% off the window price of ¥150). Documented concessions: half price for full-time students, minors aged 6–18 and seniors 60–74, and free entry to the observation halls for children under 6 or 1.2 m, seniors 75+, soldiers and people with disabilities — bring original certificates, and note these concession rules are the tower's own commercial policy, not government pricing, so confirm eligibility documents (e.g. Chinese-issued student ID) when booking.

Huacheng Square, Haixin Bridge and Ersha Island all give you a full Canton Tower photograph without a ticket. Spend the money on the ¥10 Chen Clan Ancestral Hall instead — the carving alone justifies it — and save the tower for sunset, when the ¥150 indoor hall actually earns its price.
Getting around
Canton Tower stands on Zhujiang New Town across the river from the old city (metro Line 3 or the APM to Canton Tower station). The Chen Clan hall is in Liwan, the old west, reachable on Line 1 — pair it with Liwan Lake Park and the Shangxiajiu pedestrian street in the same afternoon.
Chimelong is the outlier: the safari park and the amusement parks sit far south beyond Nanpu, a metro-plus-shuttle trip of well over an hour each way. It is a full-day commitment, not a half-day.
Time slots are enforced. Canton Tower sells slotted entry and missing your slot can mean no ascent at all; cheap third-party tickets sometimes fail validation — book the official mini-program. Chimelong prices children by height (1.0–1.5 m), not age — the subject of a well-known Guangdong Consumer Council case — and its dates are priced differently (¥300 regular / ¥350 on specific dates).
A day count that works
- Day 1: Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Liwan Lake Park, Shangxiajiu — dinner in the old west.
- Day 2: Yuexiu Park and the Five-Ram Statue in the morning; Canton Tower at sunset; Pearl River night cruise if the weather holds.
- Day 3: Chimelong Safari Park — a genuine full day.
