Xianggong Mountain (相公山) is a modest peak on the banks of the Li River, about an hour from Yangshuo, that delivers the single most famous panorama in the Guilin area.

Intro: why go

From the top you look down on a broad bend of the Li River, ringed by a dozen rounded karst peaks poking through morning mist. The view appears on nearly every Guilin postcard. The climb is short and the reward is huge, which is why photographers haul gear up before dawn.

Tickets & booking

Entry is charged at roughly $7–10 per person; verify the current price at the gate, since it is run by the village rather than a big operator. There is no advance booking system, so just pay on arrival. The ticket covers the path and the viewing platforms only.

How to get there & in-site route

The mountain sits near Xingping, about an hour by car from Yangshuo. Most visitors come by tour van, private car or DiDi. From the parking, a stone stair climbs about 15–20 minutes to the main viewpoint. Go up well before sunrise or an hour before sunset for the best light.

Facilities

There is a small parking area and a few stalls at the base. The upper platforms have railings but little shade. Toilets are basic, and there is no food on the summit, so bring water.

Best season & seasonal pros and cons

Autumn and spring offer the clearest layers of mist and peak. Summer is green and dramatic but humid and stormy. Winter can be cold and foggy, hiding the bend entirely, so check the morning forecast.

Tips & scams

Start the climb early to claim a spot; the top gets crowded at sunrise. Wear shoes with grip, as the steps are steep and slippery after rain. No drone flying is allowed over the river here.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to climb Xianggong Mountain?
Go up 30–45 minutes before sunrise or an hour before sunset. The morning mist on the river bend is the classic shot, and the platforms fill fast.
How hard is the climb?
It is a steep stone stair of about 15–20 minutes, not technical but tiring in humidity. Wear shoes with grip, since the steps get slippery after rain.
Can I fly a drone there?
No. Recreational drones are restricted over the Li River and managed viewpoints. Leave it at your hotel or you risk a fine and confiscation on site.
